SA Innovation Summit (SAIS) partnered for a second year in a row with Santam Limited offering the South-African hacking community an opportunity to get involved in the country’s biggest safety hackathon! This 48-hour IoT Safety Hackathon presented in collaboration with IBM, brings together a diverse group of people with a wide range of skillsets to collaborate in improving the safety of the personal lives of South Africans. The hackathon will take place on 6 and 7 September at the Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
This 48-hour hackathon event will be both technical and solution driven, bringing together multidisciplinary teams with the objective of creating innovative, connected devices to improve the quality of lifestyle, save time and save money. IBM’s Bluemix Cloud infrastructure and services ranging from data analysis to machine learning, will support participants in the development process. Mentors and facilitators will be present during the hackathon to support teams and accelerate the creative process.
A free pre-event workshop will be hosted on Tuesday, 5 September at the Cape Town Stadium at 18:00. The workshop is open to the public and all participants, and will feature experts in the field while offering an opportunity to developers, engineers, creatives and other change-makers in the field to meet. PRIZES TO BE WON
The winning team will receive a R20 000 cash prize, with incubation support (worth R150 000) offered to guide the winning idea from ideation to concept, prototype and eventually business plan and readiness to launch. Second and third prizes worth R10 000 and R5 000 will also be awarded.
