This week, we speak to Alexandre Vellieux of JustNow about their participation in the 2017 Chivas Venture Pitching Den and his entrepreneurial journey.
What is JustNow?
It is a smart advertising system that reduces food waste while being a powerful sales and marketing tool for food retailers.
What impact will your product have?
On average, we reduce the waste at the shops by almost 30% and we are a traffic generator: on our slips, 30% of the purchase concern other products from the shop.
What has participating in the Chivas Venture Pitching Den meant for your business your business?
It means we are starting to be visible in the eco-system and that our mission to reduce food waste finds echo. We need to raise awareness in South Africa.
What challenges were you faced with while building your product?
First you need to design the solution and this comes with many challenges as we wanted to propose something simple for the customers but in the meantime something sophisticated for the retailers, that can integrate easily with their backend system.
What advice would you give to entrepreneurs or those looking to start their own business?
There are 3 things that are critical: 1. You’ve got to get passionate about what you want to do and why you’re doing it, because you’ll get through very down phases and you think it will never work. 2. You need to execute very well your idea in the daily operations once you’re live: you are new and small so you have no space for mistake. 3. You need a large network around you, for introductions, for leads, for feedback and so on. Only your network will allow you to scale your business and to take it to another level.
