WHY ATTEND THE SUMMIT?
South Africans have long been recognised for their pioneering efforts and many of significant “world firsts” come from South Africa. For example, Computicket, the world’s first complex, computerised ticketing system was invented by South Africa’s leading ticketing agent. Appletiser was first squeezed in 1965 in Elgin Valley. The swimming pool cleaning machine, Kreepy Krauly, was invented by Ferdinand Chauvier from Springs, South Africa. And so the list goes on. The SA Innovation Summit prides itself in identifying and nurturing this kind of talent and creating the space where investors can experience it first hand through the Pitching Den and instantly connect in the Match & Invest lounge.
World renowned speakers and experts in their fields have crossed the Innovation Summit stage over the last 10 years. This year will be no different! The Call for Speakers is currently open and the line-up will be announced over the next coming months!

Set against the backdrop of the SA Innovation Summit, the Pitching Den and the Inventors Garage competitions aim to promote and develop the entrepreneurial creativity of start-ups and inventors, showcase their ground-breaking products or services, gain visibility across multiple-helix stakeholders, and secure financial and business support.
In 2017 Pitching Den goes international and invites high-growth early-stage startups from all over the world to pitch their innovative business solutions to a well-rounded panel of venture capitalists, angel investors and business development experts, and to compete for various prizes.
Nine out of ten inventors do their best work in the garden shed. The SA Innovation Summit recognises this immense creative power, and through the Inventor’s Garage competition, invites the garage and kitchen inventors, university students and research councils to vie for a chance to showcase their designs, models or prototypes in any industry and win cash prizes, get media exposure and more.
On 24 March, Delvv.io, winner of the Pitching Den Competition at the SA Innovation Summit 2016 had the opportunity to compete with entrepreneurs from around the world.
The Startup World Cup partnered with SA Innovation Summit for the first time in 2016. This event is run by Fenox Venture Capital, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm, which has invested in more than 90 companies globally. The company is dedicated “to launching and advising the world’s next wave of leading entrepreneurs”. In 2017, the Pitching Den Competition, launching in April, will partner again with Fenox Venture Capital.
Delvv.io’s Trevor Wolf advises his younger self
Delvv is a misspelling of delve, a “cool qualitative term” for investigate; explore. ‘We see ourselves as more qualitative research startup than data analytics.’
If he could have a word with his younger self, Trevor Wolfe says, he would tell him to do things a bit differently. But, if his young self could see him now, he would probably say: I am not changing a thing!
Wolfe, co-founder and chief executive officer of startup Delvv.io, went to San Francisco to compete against 15 other winners of regional startup competitions in the grand finale of the World Startup Cup on March 24. They will compete in front of an all-star panel of distinguished venture capitalists for a US$1 million investment prize.
Still, Wolfe says, if given that imagined moment with his younger self he would say: “Experiment more. Don’t be so focused on career planning, on following a linear path … Take some risks early on in your career.” [Read more]
